QUICK GIFTS - SLIPPERS

for felted slippers. It is a simple circular knit pattern, basically a pair of short socks.  Knit in worsted/aran weight yarn, they knit up quickly in a couple of evenings.

Marsh Felted Slippers
If you prefer flat VS circular knits, Marsh Felted Slippers are knit flat. The seam down the centre of the foot is grafted or 3 needle bind off, with just a very short seam up the back heel. Again knit in worsted/aran, a quick knit and a great stash buster.

Modular Felted Slippers
These modular knit felted slippers are a lot of fun. Gabriela discovered them and turned our project class regulars on to them. I have seen them done in Cascade, Freedom Spirit, Wool Joy, Kureyon and combinations of any of the above. Again, very simple flat knitting and seaming and great stash busters.

My Grandmother's Slippers
If you are of a certain age, you probably had a pair of these, loving knit for you by your Grandmother or Aunt Mary. Phentex is still available but why not treat yourself to something a little softer, Cascade 220 double stranded.

 

Treat the younger generation to a bit of history but spare them the Phentex.

Churchmouse Bed Socks
These beautiful little bed socks only require 50 gms of sock yarn. We have some very nice hand paint yarns from Fleece Artist, Misti Alpaca and Dye-version that would get you 2 pair, one for you and a second as a gift.

QUICK PROJECTS -  Mittens

Ravelry abounds with great mitten patterns. One of my favourites is Bella Mitts, so named because they copy the mittens worn by Bella in the first Twilight movie.

These mittens are a relatively quick knit because they are knit with very chunky yarn. And with the long cuff, they are very warm.

Another great mitten is the Fleece Artist Thrum mitten. The kit comes with a pattern. If you know how to knit mittens, we can give you a quick demo on how to attach thrums to get you going.

Are you always falling in love with a yarn, but then can't find a pattern? Or equally frustrating, pattern but no yarn. Ann's books offer several patterns, in multiple sizes (many for baby through 2XLarge adult) in multiple yarn weights. You pick a yarn, knit a swatch to determine gauge, pick your pattern and decide on a size. The patterns contain thorough directions with charts where you cross reference to determine the stitches you need for the gauge of your yarn and the size you wish to knit. I use the knitter's handy book of patterns constantly. It has patterns for hats, socks, mitts, gloves, a few vests and basic sweaters. It makes selecting yarn for projects  so much easier.

SOMETHING FOR THE MEN IN YOUR LIFE

I don't know about you, but finding gifts for the men in my life is some times difficult.  I often just give up and resort to gift cards from Home Depot, Chapters or any store which sells electronics. If you would like to knit something I have a couple of suggestions. Let us start with a great FREE PATTERN from Ravelry - LAMAR, a classic, reversible, cabled scarf. It is so hard to find good reversible scarves. And a bonus is that this pattern would also be great for men.

I have knit the scarf three times now and made a few changes to the original pattern including modifications to knit the scarf in any weight of yarn (original knit in chunky). Drop by, pick out any yarn you like and we can help you with the necessary changes to the pattern to knit a classic reversible cabled scarf great for the men in you life.

 

If you are new to cables, there are spaces left in Monday's class where this scarf is actually the class project.

Description	Cables are wonderful and fun to knit. Most cables unfortunately don’t look too great when the wrong side is visible, so not always a great choice for scarves. The solution is a totally reversible cable design from Ravelry called Lamar.
Prerequisites	Advanced beginner

 

SOCK BLOCKERS

If you enjoy knitting socks, either for yourself or as gifts, treat yourself to some sock blockers. Lace socks blocked in a snap, so easy. If your socks look like they have shrunk a little, stretch them back out. Most sock yarns, even if they are machine wash, want you to lie them flat to dry. With a pair of blockers, you can hang them to dry. We now carry wire sock blockers, available in 3 sizes for the fabulous low retail of $20 -$25, depending on size.
